The Chairman of the Committee on power sector audit Mohammad Ali tweeted and refuted the authenticity of certain reports being circulated on social media.
According to the details, Chairman Mohammad Ali tweeted on the microblogging website on Wednesday that The Committee on power sector audit, circular debt resolution, and roadmap to a multi-buyer market has submitted its final report to the Prime Minister Office. Various reports circulating on social media are not part of the Committee’s report nor can they be attributed to its findings.
Earlier, the government formed a committee for auditing the power sector, eliminating circular debt and developing a future road map, in a bid to identify and examine causes of the high cost of electricity in Pakistan.
The committee’s terms of reference cover four broad areas, which include review matters pertaining to the cost of setting up private power generation units under various policies including all aspects of project costing and identifying any unethical or illegal practices, administrative procedural weaknesses and any regulatory gaps that may have appeared, and recommending the way forward.
It is pertinent to mention that the committee was chaired by former SECP chairman Muhammad Ali. He is a Harvard Alumni and one of the finest Technocrats of the country. There is a special protocol for submitting an official report to the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister office is the only authority to public such reports.
