Pakistan’s polio virus tally for year 2020 stands at 84 after Balochistan reported its 26th polio case on Wednesday (today).
As per details a 14-month old girl from Union Council Karez Noth, Mastung, Balochistan has tested positive for polio virus after her samples were sent to Islamabad earlier this month on December 5.
It has been revealed that the child’s family had refused to administer polio vaccine earlier.
The development takes provincial polio virus tally to 26, whereas country’s total polio virus count stands at 84 cases.
Balochistan has reported highest number of polio virus cases followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh with 22 cases each and 14 in Punjab.
In addition to it, 83 cases of cVDPV2 polio (vaccine derived polio) have also been reported in the country so far.
It is pertinent to know that Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world still affected by polio virus.
