Police and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) workers clashed in front of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office on Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the accountability watchdog.
Hundreds of PML-N workers gathered in a show of solidarity with Maryam Nawaz in front of NAB office in Lahore on Monday. However, PML-N workers clashed with police personnel posted at the NAB office, pelted stones at police and tried to breach security barriers and hurdles raised at the site.
Police in-return, resorted to tear gas shelling and baton charge in order to disperse the crowd.
Due to rapidly deteriorating situation, NAB officials postponed the hearing and directed Maryam Nawaz to turn back and abstain from coming to the NAB office.
Maryam Nawaz took to social media condemning police shelling and baton charge against ‘peaceful’ party workers and supporters.
“If I have been called, then listen to me as well,” she said in a video statement.
The development comes as the PML-N leader was summoned by the accountability watchdog to be questioned regarding a case pertaining to illegal transfer of 200 acres of land in Raiwind during Deputy Commissioner (DC) Noor-ul-Amin Mengal and former DG Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema’s tenure.
