Pakistan Navy (PN) inducted state of the art corvette PNS TABUK on Thursday (today).
Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi was the Chief Guest of the the induction ceremony which was held at Pakistan Navy Dockyard, Karachi, reported DGPR Navy.
CNS Adm Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi termed induction of PNS TABUK as an important milestone for PN to enhance Ops capabilities and promote maritime security in the region.
Naval Chief also praised M/s DAMEN Shipyards (Romania) for cooperation and delivering high quality platforms. Naval Chief urged officers and men to make full use of combat potential in safeguarding country’s maritime interests.
The ship is part of a two vessel order with Damen, signed by the Pakistan Ministry of Defense in 2017. Both ships are built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania.
Prior to this, PNS YARMOOK was inducted in July this year.
Yarmook-Class Corvette
The Yarmook-class corvette is based on the design of offshore patrol vessels (OPV) developed by the Dutch Shipyard Damen.
The ships are multipurpose, highly adaptable platforms, capable of performing a wide variety of operations in a complex maritime environment. She is able to launch a helicopter and a UAV, as well as two RHIBs simultaneously.
The 2,300 tonnes corvettes are equipped with state of the art electronic warfare, anti-ship and anti-air weapons/sensors along with modern self-protection and terminal defense system.
