Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday (today) highlighted the need for debt relief and availability of COVID-19 vaccine for developing countries.
In his virtual address to 4th Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Financing for Development, PM Imran Khan accentuated the significance and need for debt relief programs for developing countries amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The premier also stressed upon the ease of availability of COVID-19 vaccines as developing countries lack critical resources, infrastructure to be self-sufficient in inoculation against coronavirus pandemic.
The prime minister proposed a five-point framework for the economies trying to recover from the adverse circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic.
He recommended a Special Drawing Rights package worth US$ 500 billion for addressing the issue of balance of payment.
Debt re-payments for the most stressed countries should be suspended until the end of the pandemic, he said.
Expressing his views on the issue of climate change, Imran Khan said that developing countries must ensure the fulfillment of US$ 100 billion target for climate action.
