Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation of Phase one of the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development project in Lahore on Tuesday (today).
Addressing the ceremony, PM Imran Khan highlighted the significance of Ravi Riverfront Urban Development project and its role in addressing issues of urbanization in Lahore.
The development of a new city will definitely decrease the burden on Lahore and would improve civic amenities, he said.
The ceremony was also attended by Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar and various federal ministers and relevant officials.
Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project
Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) is an approved urban development megaproject in Lahore, Punjab.
It includes the construction of a 40,000-hectare (100,000-acre) planned city and the rehabilitation of the Ravi River into a perennial freshwater body.
In 2013, the Government of Punjab began considering the project, which was initially planned to span over 18,000 hectares (44,000 acres).
The project aims to rehabilitate and develop the Ravi River into a perennial freshwater body, with high-quality urban development on the adjoining land for about 35 million inhabitants.
When completed, it will be a modern city on the banks of the Ravi River, bordering Lahore on the north and the west sides, comprising of green belts, piers and boardwalks, along with 1.4 million residential units as per the master-plan.
