Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Tuesday that the nationwide lockdown would continue another two weeks which will include closure of social and public meetings and educational institutes.
He, however, allowed the construction sector to remain open and functioning from tomorrow.
He said certain industries such as construction will be opened, beginning tomorrow.
He said that provinces were taken into consultation before reaching this decision.
“We got to this decision with the consent of all the provincial chief secretaries and chief ministers,” he said, adding: “There is about an 89% consensus on which industries to reopen and which not to.”
Regarding provincial autonomy, he said they were free to make their own decision in this situation according to the 18th Amendment. “If even now, provinces think they are not ready for this, it is up to them. The Centre will not impose its decision on them.”
