Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended its in-flight meal service for flights bound for Middle Eastern countries.
As per the new policy, PIA will only provide water and other beverages including soft drinks, juices, black/green tea and coffee to passengers while in-flight meal services have been temporarily suspended by the national carrier.
“As per Management’s Directive, only beverage service (water, soft drinks, juices & Black/Green Tea & Coffee) for pax will be uplifted on all middle-east sector flights i.e. Pak-Middle-East-Pak, till further instruction,” read the notification issued by PIA.
Cabin and flight crew are exempted from the meal ban, added the notification.
It is to be noted that PIA is conducting special flights operations to various countries to bring back thousands of Pakistani citizens who have been left stranded due to coronavirus travel restrictions.
According to Moeed Yusuf – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Security, round 20,000 Pakistanis have already been brought while another 12,000 stranded Pakistanis are expected to be brought back in the next 10 days, meanwhile around 100,000 Pakistani nationals stranded abroad, have reached out to Pakistani authorities urging to be rescued and brought back amid COVID-19 crisis
