Punjab Forensic Science Agency personnel arrived in Karachi on Saturday, to collect DNA samples for the identification of victims of the deadly PIA plane crash the day before.
The forensic personnel comprising of three teams, will collect DNA samples from the dead bodies and the family members of the victims to cross identify the deceased as the dead bodies have been left charred due to the blaze that broke out after the deadly crash in the residential area.
Dr Tahir Ashraf – head of Punjab Forensic Science Agency stated, “The teams will start collecting samples from today. As soon as the samples reach Lahore, we will work day and night to get the result out as soon as possible. The result of the DNA test will be available in 24 hours.”
According to earlier reports, 19 victims have already been identified while six dead bodies have been handed over to the families.
As per the figures confirmed by DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar, 97 dead bodies have been recovered from the crash site, while rescue personnel are still clearing the debris to search for any dead bodies buried under the rubble.
The dead bodies are being kept at Civil hospital, Jinnah hospital, Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth and Chhipa morgue near FTC.
