Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA), on Thursday, brought back the dead bodies of three Pakistani nationals from Spain who had died due to COVID-19 coronavirus.
According to PIA spokesperson, the dead bodies will be handed over to the deceased relatives/heirs by Station Manager and Cargo Terminal Manager.
The development comes after government, on Wednesday, had permitted to bring back the dead bodies of Pakistani citizens who have died due to COVID-19 in various countries around the world.
It is to be noted that PIA has been tasked by the government to bring back stranded Pakistanis from various countries around the world via special flight operations. Government has also issued special guidelines and SOPs to ensure the safety of passengers, cabin and flight crew.
Earlier, PIA had already temporarily suspended in-flight meal services for flights bound for Middle East.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Security, Moeed Yusuf, on May 11 had announced that all the passengers returning from abroad will undergo coronavirus test and will be shifted to a quarantine centre immediately until their test results are received.
According to him 20,000 Pakistanis have already been brought back from various countries, while another 100,000 Pakistani nationals stranded abroad, have reached out to Pakistani authorities urging to be rescued and brought back amid COVID-19 crisis.
