Special sniffing dogs have been deployed at Peshawar airport to detect COVID-19 infected travelers flying from abroad.
A total of 166 passengers landed at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan airport, of which 14 were detected of being infected with COVID-19 by these special sniffing dogs.
Later, tests confirmed that these travelers were in fact infected with COVID-19.
According to Obaidullah Abbasi – airport’s manager, NCOC delegation has termed Bacha Khan airport’s COVID-19 SOPs and screening measures as satisfactory.
Swab tests are done on incoming passengers and then a dog sniffs the swab to check for the virus, he explained, adding that if the dog sits down after sniffing the swab, the passenger is declared positive for COVID-19, he added.
These sniffer dogs have also been deployed at New Islamabad International Airport to screen passengers coming to Pakistan from abroad.
It is pertinent to know that Pakistan Army provided specially trained dogs to airport authorities after approval of NCOC.
