Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared PML-N’s Pervaiz Rashid ‘ineligible’ for Senate elections, upholding ECP’s rejection of Rashid’s nomination papers.
As per details, an appellate bench of LHC on Tuesday (today), rejected Pervaiz Rashid’s appeal against rejection of nomination papers for Senate elections by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The verdict was announced by election tribunal’s single member bench comprising of Justice Shahid Waheed.
The development comes as earlier; Pervaiz Rashid had filed an appeal against ECP’s rejection of his nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections last week.
Pervaiz Rashid’s nomination papers were rejected over allegations that he had defaulted on payments of Punjab House.
Expressing his views on the verdict, PML-N leader contended that he is ready to pay the Rs 9.5 million dues to Punjab House. Payment cheques for the money were also produced before the RO and told him that no one was ready to receive the arrears, said Rashid’s defense counsel.
It is to be noted that Punjab government had issued a list of individuals defaulting on payments pertaining to Punjab House.
As per the list, PML-N’s Pervaiz Rashid owed a total of Rs 7.05 million to Punjab House, whereas his daughter Poonam Rashid owed another Rs 2.7 million.
