People around the world are celebrating ‘Nowruz’ – Persian New Year (also known as Iranian New Year) on Saturday March 20th today.
Nowruz is celebrated on the first day of Farvardin (the first month of Iranian solar calendar) and marks the beginning of spring equinox in northern hemisphere.
With Iranian and Zoroastrian origins, Nowruz has been celebrated by various communities for more than 3,000 years in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin, the Balkans, and South Asia.
Nowruz was given official recognition as ‘International Day of Nowruz’ by United Nations (UN) in 2010 via UN resolution 64/235.
Wishes All Around

I offer my best wishes to everyone marking Nowruz. Nowruz serves as inspiration to recover & rebuild in a more just and durable way, in harmony with nature, said the UN Chief.
