Islamabad: The parliamentary committee seeks to monitor and review National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) policies and decisions amid coronavirus pandemic.
Minister for Narcotics Control Azam Swati, on Wednesday, chaired the meeting of the sub-committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Coronavirus Disease to formulate terms of reference (ToR) and procedural rules and regulations for the primary committee formed by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser to oversee, monitor and review the measures being taken to tackle the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Parliamentarians suggest that SOPs (standard operating procedures) of the NDMA should also include significant input by the parliamentary committee so that an equal and fair distribution of cash and relief packages can be ensured.
The committee will also give its suggestion on how various parliamentary committees and bodies should exercise their authority in this unprecedented crisis. It will be responsible for eliminating any bureaucratic hurdles in procurement of medical equipment for healthcare facilities and staff across the country.
As per the sources, around 12 ToR have been formulated, and will be presented to the primary committee, today, for approval.
