Maham Aftab – a well acclaimed Pakistani taekwondo star passed away from cancer in Islamabad on Friday.
Maham Aftab – 26, was diagnosed with brain tumor around a month ago. She was being treated in Shoukat Khanam Hospital in Lahore and was only discharged from the hospital last Sunday.
Maham represented Pakistan at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore and 2014 Youth Olympics.
In 2008, she became the youngest player to secure gold medal at an international event.
Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) in a statement, expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences on the passing away of Maham Aftab.
“Her services will be remembered always as she won laurels for Pakistan. May God Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give courage and fortitude to the family to bear this irreparable loss,” said Col (r) Waseem Ahmed – President PTF.
