Pakistan’s COVID-19 positivity has reached the grim 9.5% mark, said SAPM Dr Faisal Sultan on Saturday (today).
The development comes as national COVID-19 positivity ratio crossed 8% mark on Friday a day earlier.
As per the NCOC statistics; 40,946 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours of which 3,876 came back positive, whereas the country reported 42 coroanvirus-related casualties during this period.
Pakistan’s total COVID-19 tally stands at 623,135 cases with 13,799 deaths so far. A total of 579,760 people have successfully recovered from the novel virus whereas 2,122 are still in critical condition.
Currently, Pakistan’s active COVID-19 cases stand at 27,188.
According to SAPM Dr Faisal Sultan, health infrastructure in major cities of Punjab, Islamabad and Peshawar is under significant pressure due surge in COVID-19 cases.
The SAPM has termed the situation as ‘alarming’ urging the people to strictly adhere to COVID-19 SOPs and preventing measures.
Expressing his views on COVID-19 inoculation, Dr Faisal Sultan noted that two consignments of vaccine purchased by Pakistan will also arrive in the country by the end of this month. Furthermore, he apprised that people aged over 70 can get vaccination shots without any appointment.
