Short Pakistani film “1978” – cinematographed and write by director Hamza Bangash – has nominated it to Global cinema, and will have its world premiere at Locarno Film Festival 2020, in Switzerland in August.
Declaring the news on its official Instagram account – director Hamza Bangash claimed: “I am enthralled to eventually be able to put out my hidden film project ‘1978’ will be having its World’s premiere contest film festival 2020”.
This is heretofore my most enterprising project. We design a disco. Recorded indigenous songs. Non actors. Producing a movie takes a village, but this one seems like it took an undivided city.
Which makes perception. Since the film is about a city Karachi – that no longer subsist. A city that was at one time “the Paris of the east” Hamza declared in his post.
Formerly, Hamza Bangash has also consigned in the films “Dia” in 2018 – and “Stray Dogs Come Out at Night” 2020 – at Locardo and Palm Springs Film Festival, independently.
The film concentrated on a young Goan Christine rock star named, Lenny D’Souza – who is come to blows, to reinvent himself while Pakistan’s society is changing rigorously. Its plot is stimulated by Noman D’souza, who is a legendary Goan Christine rock star in Pakistan from the 70’s. Hamza Bangash called him “Uncle Nouman” demonstratively and declared it an entitlement to tell the narrative of lost culture. Influenced by Mr D’souza’s adventures.
The team of 1978 has recorded authentic songs, enlisted non-actors, and organized a disco – to generate the essence of the time. Bangash put down his executive producers Rashid Maqsood Hamidi and Abid Aziz Merchant who “form this movie into existence”
“1978” stars Muhammad Zeeshan as Denny D’souza, Rubya Chaudhry as Dina, theatre virtuoso Naveed Kamal as AJ, the disco manager, and Sherwyn Anthony as Thomas D’souza. The film music has been arranged by Clifford Lucas. The film has been produced by Carol Ann, and written and directed by Hamza Bangash.
The film has hitherto been recommended for the prestigious Pardino d’oro award for leading international short film and the Pardino d’argendo as well while the Locarno Film Festival will come about from 5th till 15th August.
