While Pakistan is struggling hard to escape the grip of coronavirus pandemic, Pakistani medical researchers are determined to strengthen mankind’s defence against the lethal pathogen.
Although not fighting on the frontline, Pakistani virologists and researchers have made breakthroughs in helping the health sector in defeating Covid-19 and relieving the humanity of this lurking threat.
Dr Tahir Shamsi, a consultant hematologist at the National Institute Of Blood Diseases in Karachi has been congratulated this week for his successful trial of plasma therapy treatment.

Dr Shamsi has been actively trying to help the Sindh government in containing the spread of virus through locally available solutions. He has also urged patients who have recovered from coronavirus to donate their plasma so it could be used in treating new patients.
His campaign has been gaining traction after the success stories surfaced.
Another virologist with Lancaster University in UK, Dr Muhammad Munir, is working as a consultant with WHO and leading a team of researchers who are engaged with understanding molecular mechanisms of inter-species pathogenesis of viruses with a special focus on influenza and covid 19.
Dr Munir announced through a tweet that Lancaster University has developed a vaccine against coronavirus which is now on the WHO landscape.
The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences is also carrying out research with the largest COVID-19 emergency sampling unit under its umbrella.
The institute is hopeful about their efforts in this regard.
