Pakistan has warned Afghanistan to be wary of spoilers against forces aiming to derail the intra-Afghan dialogue.
In a statement Pakistan’s Ambassador to United Nations – Munir Akram, has raised recent progress in intra-Afghan dialogue while simultaneously warning Afghanistan to be cautious against forces attempting to disrupt, derail the Afghan Peace Process.
Munir Akram told the UN General Assembly that domestic, foreign actors must not be allowed to adversely affect negotiations.
“The machinations of such spoilers must be defeated,” he said.
The ambassador noted that terrorism has had disastrous effects on Afghanistan and that Pakistan fully supports international community in its efforts to prevent Afghan soil by Al-Qaeda, ISIL/Da’esh and other terrorist organizations.
Akram also reiterated that a peaceful, stable Afghanistan is necessary for regional peace and stability.
In addition to it, Munir Akram stressed upon Afghans being ‘the masters of their own destiny’ allowing them to decide their own future without external influence.
Expressing his views on Pak-Afghan relations, Mr Ambassador highlighted that bilateral interactions have significantly increased between Kabul and Afghanistan.
Pakistan has contributed US$ 1 billion aimed at development in Afghanistan, of which more than 50 per cent will facilitate infrastructure, capacity building projects.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with Afghan Ambassador Najibullah Alikhil on Thursday.
It is to be noted that PM Imran Khan had made his maiden visit to Afghanistan in November last month. The premier had held meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and other senior officials aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and increasing trade and security cooperation between the two countries.
