Federal Minister for Science and Technology – Fawad Chaudhry on Friday, announced that Pakistan will soon have its own version of Netflix.
Fawad Chaudhry took to social media to announce that the Ministry of Science and Technology is currently working on introducing Pakistan’s own version of Netflix – a widely popular American streaming service and production company.
Pakistan’s version of Netflix will be introduced under the title ‘OTT Tv’.
According to the federal minister, the technology part of the project is complete, whereas Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) will formulate essential regulatory guidelines for the service.
“Have asked PEMRA to prepare a guideline on content and we will be all set to launch in PPP mode,” he tweeted.
The development comes as the need for OTT Tv – like service has been greatly stressed upon by local artist community after as many as five original Pakistani television series were picked up by a major Indian streaming service.
Online streaming services have essentially become one of the most popular and widely used platform for major production houses and even small scale original productions, for marketing and propagating their content and product due to internet’s extensive outreach across the world.
