Pakistan is set to receive 2.5 million doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines under WHO’s COVAX initiative.
The 2.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine will be provided to Pakistan free of cost under WHO’s COVAX programme.
The vaccine is expected to reach Pakistan in a week or two and will be used to inoculate people who are immunocompromised and those who are suffering from chronic diseases.
The development comes as earlier National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) allowed Pfizer jabs to be administered to Pakistanis travelling abroad.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development – Asad Umar on Friday a day earlier took to social media to warn of the fourth COVID-19 wave expected to hit Pakistan by July next month.
Pakistan is currently utilizing a total of six COVID-19 vaccines namely Sinopharm, CansinoBio, Sputnik V, Oxford AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinovac to carryout nation-wide inoculation drive against the novel virus.
It is to be noted that following NCOC’s approval, people aged 18 and are now able to avail the walk-in COVID-19 vaccination facility across the country.
As per NCOC statistics, 11,440,648 people have been partially vaccinated against COVID-19 with 2,725,240 people being fully vaccinated against the novel virus with the country administering a total of 14,165,288 COVID-19 vaccine doses in total.
Pakistan’s total COVID-19 tally stands at 953,842 cases with 22,188 deaths so far. A total of 898,944 people have successfully recovered from the novel virus, whereas 1,995 are still in critical condition.
