Pakistan is set to host a three-day Afghan Peace Conference from July 17th to July 19th in Islamabad from tomorrow.
Foreign Office spokesperson – Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri has confirmed that Pakistan will be hosting Afghan Peace Conference which will be attended by a number of Afghan leaders and stake holders.
The event will provide momentum to the ongoing efforts for peace in Afghanistan and will provide impetus to the ongoing efforts for peace in Afghanistan, he noted.
The conference is part of Pakistan’s principle stance for an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement in Afghanistan.
However, Afghan Taliban will not be attending the peace conference, added Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri.
Pakistan has been hosting over three million Afghan refugees for decades and now it is not possible to accept more refugees.
He said regional economic activity and connectivity are vital for peace and prosperity of the region, which is directly linked with tranquility in Afghanistan.
Replying to a question, he said Pakistan wants to reopen Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing with Afghanistan to facilitate cross border movement of the people.
Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri also denied rumors circulating regarding the postponement of the conference.
PM Imran Khan will host the conference. Prominent Afghan leaders and political figures expected to attend the event include Salahuddin Rabbani, Omar Zakhilwal, Haji Muhammad Mohaqiq, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Ahmed Wali Masoud.
