In a significant development, Pakistan has been elected as ‘President’ of International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
Pakistan is set to head International Development Law Organization after being elected as the ‘President’ of the prestigious International Development Law Organization.
Pakistan’s presidency will start from January 2021 and will be of three years in tenure. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy Jauhar Saleem will be representing the country.
Expressing his views, Jauhar Saleem expressed gratitude to IDLO members and noted that the development negates India’s anti-Pakistan propaganda.
International Development Law Organization (IDLO)
IDLO is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the promotion of the rule of law. It focuses on the promotion of rule of law and development, empowering of people and communities to claim their rights, and provides governments with the know-how to realize them.
IDLO is headquartered in Rome, Italy and has a branch office in The Hague and is one of a number of entities that are United Nations General Assembly observers.
Member Party states form the ‘Assembly’ of Parties, IDLO’s highest decision making body whose role is to determine the IDLO’s policies and oversee the work of the Director-General.
IDLO has operated in dozens of sovereign states, focusing on institution-building and legal empowerment. Its alumni network includes more than 20,000 legal professionals in 175 countries and 46 independent alumni associations.
