Pakistan has provided safe passage and refuge to 46 Afghan soldiers at Pak-Afghan border in Chitral.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), responding to the request of an Afghan National Army (ANA) Commander, Pakistan has provided refuge to 46 Afghan soldiers at Pak-Afghan border in Chitral.
The ANA Commander had requested Pakistan Army for safe passage and refuge for 46 personnel including five officers from ANA and Border Police after they failed to hold and secure their positions along Pak-Afghan border in wake of recent Taliban offence across Afghanistan.
Pakistan army contacted Afghan authorities for information and necessary formalities. These Afghan soldiers arrived at Arundu Sector, Chitral late last night.
After contact with Afghan authorities and necessary military procedures, forty-six soldiers including five officers have been given refuge and safe passage into Pakistan
Afghan soldiers have been provided food, shelter and necessary medical care as per established military norms.
These soldiers including officers will be returned to Afghan government authorities in a dignified manner after due process.
Prior to this, 35 Afghan soldiers had requested Pakistan army for refuge and safe passage due to inability to hold their military post along Pak-Afghan international border on July 1 earlier this month.
The Afghan soldiers were given safe passage into Pakistan and handed over to Afghan government authorities after due procedure.
It is pertinent to know that more than 1,000 Afghan security personnel fled across the border into Tajikistan following Taliban advances in northern Afghanistan earlier this month.
