Pakistan on Wednesday, offered condolences over the sad demise of Dr Saeb Erekat – a prominent Palestinian leader.
As per the statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), The government and people of Pakistan offer deep condolences over the sad demise of the eminent Palestinian leader and negotiator, Dr Saeb Erekat.
“We offer our profound sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We fully share the sorrow and grief of our Palestinian brethren and stand by them in this difficult time,” read the MoFA press-release.
Dr Saeb Erekat passed away at the age of 65 on November 10th a day earlier due to after severe health complications due to COVID-19 coronavirus.
He tested positive for the novel virus on October 9th last month.

Dr Saem Erekat was a Palestinian politician and diplomat who was the Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the PLO (since 2015). He served as chief of the PLO Steering and Monitoring Committee until 12th February 2011.
He negotiated the Oslo Accords with Israel and remained chief negotiator from 1995 until May 2003, when he resigned in protest from the Palestinian government.
Erekat was one of the more prominent Palestinian spokespeople in the Western media. He wrote extensively in the media about Palestinian statehood, and was a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s peace plan.
