Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being remembered on his 83rd death anniversary on 21st April, Wednesday (today).
Born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877 Allama Iqbal is known as ‘poet of the East’ and is credited as the ideological founder of Pakistan as he was the first person to present a basic geographical guideline on the proposed Independent Muslim state within sub-continent – a dream that later came true in the form of Pakistan.
Allama Iqbal passed away on April 21st 1938. He’s buried at an enclosed garden enclosed garden between the entrance of the Badshahi Mosque and the Lahore Fort.

Today, on National Commemoration Day of Persian poet Shaykh Saadi Shirazi and death anniversary of Allama Iqbal, it is fitting to be in Iran; a country with deep reverence for Shaykh Saadi and Iqbal. The spirit of their wisdom and poetry is etched into very fabric of Pakistan and Iran, said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Who Was Allama Iqbal?
Sir Muhammad Iqbal, commonly known as Allama Iqbal; was a Muslim poet, philosopher and politician from Punjab. Born on November 9th 1877, Iqbal’s poetry in Urdu and Persian is considered to be among the greatest of the modern era, whereas Iqbal’s vision of an independent state for the Muslims of British India was to inspire the creation of Pakistan.
Allama lqbal served as a member of the Punjab legislative council from 1926 to 1929 and was also elected as President of the All India Muslim League Punjab. He was ardent advocate for the political and spiritual revival of Islamic civilization across the world and especially in India. He is alsoknown as Muffakir-e-Pakistan (The Thinker of Pakistan) for his historic 1930 presidential address. His other accolades include titles such as ‘Shair-e-Mashriq (The Poet of the East)’, and ‘Hakeem-ul-Ummat (The Sage of Ummah)’. Allama Iqbal is officially recognized as the national poet of Pakistan.
