Pakistan has issued a ‘measured’ statement on the Capitol Hill incident involving President Trump’s supporters storming the legislative complex in Washington, United States (US).
In a statement issued on Thursday January , Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its concerns on the storming of Capitol Hill building by right-wing pro-Trump supporters.
We are closely following the developments in Washington DC. We are hopeful that the situation will soon normalize and would not in any way impact the ongoing transition process, said a Foreign Ministry Spokesperson.
We also wish to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden on certification of his win by the US Congress, the statement added.
The development comes as earlier hundreds of pro-Trump supporters stormed US Capitol Hill Building and vandalized the complex while protesting against the 2020 US Election results.
The violence was incited by US President Donald Trump who, via his inflammatory rhetoric against election results had encouraged his supporters to march towards the Capitol Hill – the building where the US House of Representatives and Senate (Congress) meet.
