Pakistan has installed the first-ever high-speed cellphone tower at the bottom camp of K2, the second-highest peak within the world.
The installation of 4G towers is aimed at facilitating people who visit the K2 for tourism and mountaineering purposes.
The project is the initiative of Special Communication Organization that works under the Interior Ministry.
The initiative aims to facilitate the tourists and mountaineers to remain in-tuned with their teams while hiking to toward the savage mountain. The installation of the mobile tower will drastically assist the expeditions aimed at summiting the second highest peak in the world.

Up till now, the mountaineers used satellite phones to remain in contact with the base camp while many faced difficulties in communication thanks to harsh weather at the world’s second-highest peak.
Meanwhile, Gilgit Baltistan government has also accelerated steps to facilitate tourists along side locals.
