Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take notice of the violations of the human rights laws and international laws by Indian forces in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a virtual meeting of UNSC on ‘Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict’, Munir Akram – Pakistan’s permanent representative in UN, highlighted the Indian atrocities and human rights violations committed by Indian forces on the Muslim population of disputed Jammu and Kashmir region.
Munir Akram also warned the 15-member body that its inaction and failure to heed in addressing armed conflicts will result grave human cost in the region.
Furthermore, Mr Akran urged the council to address long standing political and disputed territory issues such as Palestine and Kashmir to put an end to the human suffering attached to these conflicts.
In addition to it, he also reiterated Pakistan’s concerns regarding the politicization of COVID-19 against Muslims stating that the Indian government has used the virus outbreak to further tighten the nine-month lockdown in the Kashmir valley along with a digital blackout.
It is to be noted that Indian government and media have been instigating communal and religious divide by politicizing COVID-19 outbreak and blaming Muslims for spreading the virus in the country. Hate speech and social boycott against Muslims have witnessed an exponential increase in India in the past few months.
