DUBAI: Pakistani workers stuck in the United Arab Emirates are worried about their return to home after the UAE imposes tight travel restrictions.
More than 20,000 Pakistani workers stuck in the UAE who had registered to travel since April 3. The country has imposed a nationwide curfew and travel restrictions following reports of 1799 infected cases and 10 deaths owing to coronavirus. Many have reached visa expiry, lost their jobs or are ot being paid by their employers.
Pakistani authorities were in talks with their UAE counterparts to try to arrange flights so that the Pakistanis could return home, the spokesman said.
Hundreds of Pakistanis gathered outside the consulate on Sunday, demanding to be sent home according to Dubai media reports.
The consulate spokesman disputed the figure and said police had dispersed the group as they were in breach of the lockdown.
