Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has directed authorities to operationalize Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal in order to prevent heavy traffic from being parked at Karachi’s Shireen Jinnah Colony.
During the hearing of Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal case at SC Karachi Registry on Monday (today), the top court directed Sindh chief secretary to personally oversee the issue of operationalization Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal.
CJP Gulzar Ahmed reprimanded government over its failure to address the issue. The Chief Justice also underscored that oil tanker drivers have even been provided with alternate land in Mawach Goth still nothing has been changed.
Heavy traffic still continues to choke Sunset Boulevard, said CJP.
Tanker owners who attended the hearing complained of utter lack of facilities at the Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal. ‘There is no electricity, no garage, no workshop, how we go there?’ they argued.
Meanwhile, Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) lawyer reaffirmed the court that the city government has provided all facilities to the terminal owners but still the drivers have been parking outside the terminal.
Furthermore, CJP Gulzar Ahmed lambasted authorities over the fact that the shopkeepers have been directed to build the shops themselves. In response, administrator KMC apprised the court that they are short on funds and hence have asked shopkeepers to build the shops themselves.
If you can’t build an oil terminal, then there is no justification to remain as an administrator remarked the top judge.
The court then adjourned the hearing directing Sindh Chief Secretary to look into the matter personally.
