ISLAMABAD: Art pieces are being auctioned online to raise money for unprivileged people by an Islamabad-based art gallery.
Gallery 6 has been auctioning paintings and works of artists for the fifth of the actual price since April 5 and has managed to collect Rs 110000 for ration of 25 families.
The gallery has auctioned the oil painting of artist Arjumand Faisel for Rs 14,000, calligraphy of Wasil Shahid for Rs 23,000, oil painting of Riaz Rafi for Rs 35,000 and mixed media painting of Javed Qamar for Rs 6,500 from April 6 to April 9.
Gallery 6 curator, Dr Faisal launched the auction. “This is a two-pronged approach that would not only help us collect money for people in need but also provide an opportunity for art lovers to acquire paintings at substantially lower prices, even lower than the price at which artists give it to the gallery.”, he said in an interview.
He had identified more than 1000 families who need funds and started the auction by auctioning his own painting.
“As I floated first my own painting, I started getting calls from several artists that they would also like to donate their paintings for the cause.”, he added.
He told the reporters that other artists also supported the initiative.
