The All Pakistan Oil Tankers Contractors Association announced to end its country-wide strike following successful negotiations with federal government on Friday (today).
Federal Minister for Energy – Hammad Azhar along with officials from Petroleum Division held successful talks with Oil Tankers and Contractors Association who were on nation-wide strike against government’s decision to increase the turnover tax.
Additionally, APOTCA has complained that the computerized system introduced by oil marketing companies to replace the traditional ‘queue system’ is causing severe problems and operational issues.
Addressing a press conference, Hammad Azhar announced that the government and the Oil Tankers Association are on the same page and their issues have been resolved.
Taj Afridi – Oil Tankers Association official, has confirmed that they have reached a mutually agreed understanding with government with the latter agreeing to retract earlier decision to increase the tax.
Meanwhile, Oil Tankers Owners Association had already dissociated with the strike call, reaffirming to continue supplying fuel o Karachi and other depots as per the usual routine.
The strike was called following government’s announcement to increase the turnover tax to 3.5% from the previous 2.5%.
