Federal Interior Ministry has issued notification for ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) following the violent country-wide protests that resulted in multiple casualties and injuries.
The federal government has reasonable grounds to believe that TLP is engaged in terrorism, acted in a manner prejudicial to the peace and security of the country, involved in creating anarchy in the country by intimidating the public, read the notification issued by Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Furthermore, the notification argued that TLP caused grievous bodily harm, hurt and death to the personnel of LEAs and innocent by-standers, attacked civilians and officials.
In exercise of the powers conferred by the section 11b (1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 (XXVII of 1997), the federal government is pleased to list TLP in the First Schedule to the said Act as a proscribed organization for the purposes of the said Act, added the notification.
The development comes as TLP held violent nation-wide protests against the arrest of their party leader Saad Hussain Rizvi who was taken into custody from Lahore on Monday earlier this week.
TLP was formed by Khadim Hussain Rizvi and has been an ardent advocate for strict laws, punishment against blasphemy. The party is known for its countrywide street power and massive protests in opposition to any change to Pakistan’s blasphemy law.
