National Accountability Bureau (NAB), has summoned senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nisar Khuhro to appear before NAB officials on Wednesday, to answer questions regarding wheat corruption case.
According to details, NAB suspects Nisar Khuhro of illegally giving wheat to flour mills amounting to billions of rupees. The senior PPP leader is accused of misusing his powers and allocating large sum of wheat to flour mills on credit on behalf of Sindh Food Department, when he held the designation of Sindh Food Minister.
Prior to this, Sindh government had already urged NAB to investigate the theft of wheat worth up to Rs 7 billion. Around 168,000 metric tonnes of wheat is reported to have been missing from government storage facilities across the province.
In addition to it, Sindh government has also written to the Interior Ministry to seal off its border with Balochistan to stop the wheat smuggling from the province. Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has expressed his displeasure over the slow pace of wheat procurement in the province, which has a target of 1.4 million tonnes and so far 40 per cent of the procurement has been done.
