For the first time ever, NED University – Karachi, has revised its admission policy by announcing to award admissions to the students based on their first-year results of intermediate examinations instead of taking into consideration the overall percentage of both the years.
Furthermore, the University administration has also changed the merit criteria for admissions, according to which the entrance test has been given a 50 percent weightage. The weightage of marks taken in the intermediate examinations has been reduced to 50 percent, whereas last year admission merit was prepared out of 1,200 marks with 100 marks assigned for the admission test.
Dr Tufail Ahmed – head of admission committee NED University, stated, “This year, 50 percent of the marks in the merit structure will be from the entrance test, while the remaining 50 percent will be based on the results of the first year. However, the entrance test will be based on the syllabi of both the first and second year.”
This year according to the new formula, the marks obtained in the test would be multiplied by 50 and the obtained total will be divided by 100, he clarified.
The students will be required to provide the details of their first-year examinations and only then will be allowed to appear in the admission tests. Engineering students will have to secure at least 60 percent marks.
Dr Tufail went on to say that the admission process will commence in July, while admission tests will be conducted in the second week of August.
“If this does not happen, the admission of the relevant student will be cancelled under the rules of the Pakistan Engineering Council,” he warned.
With the addition of 40 new seats, this year NED University will be able to award 2,682 seats in 28 fields/departments.
