National Assembly (NA), is scheduled to meet today to discuss coronavirus situation in the country and government’s efforts in response to the crisis.
The session will be chaired by Qasim Suri – Deputy Speaker National Assembly, treasury and opposition benches will both discuss and debate coronavirus situation in the country for two hours. The legislators attending the session are obligated to be tested for COVID-19 as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile media personnel will also be tested for the novel virus in the dispensary of the parliament house.
Earlier, on May 9, President Arif Alvi had visited the National Assembly to review the arrangements and special preventive measures for the parliamentary session on coronavirus.
According to sources, two MNAs, namely Syed Mahmood Shah and Gul Zafar Khan have tested positive for the novel virus on May 8. Other politicians including Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam, Senators Raja Zafarul Haq, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Saleem Zia, Abdul Qayum were also tested for coronavirus, however their test results came back negative.
It is to be noted that various prominent politicians such as Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani and Governor Sindh Imran Ismail have been affected by the novel virus.
