The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started its investigation into wheat theft case in Sindh, whereas Punjab government has intensified its crackdown on wheat hoarding in the province.
According to details, Director General (DG) NAB, has formed a two-member team to investigate and submit an inquiry report in wheat theft case on urgent basis.
It is to be noted that the Sindh government had earlier written to NAB, to investigate 168,000 metric tonnes of wheat amounting to Rs 7 billion being stolen from various government warehouses and storage facilities across the province.
Furthermore, Punjab government has also stepped up its efforts against wheat hoarding in the province. Assistant Commissioner Gujranwala, along with other local officials recovered and seized 5,000 sacks of wheat from a warehouse in Nowshera Varkhan.
Another 5,000 wheat sacks, mixed with sand bags, were recovered from Manchanabad.
Prior to this, several raids and recoveries have been made in ttock, Chiniot, Piplan, Sadiqabad, Multan, Hafizabad, Sargodha and Mandi Bahauddin in the past few weeks.
It is to be noted that federal and provincial governments have been under pressure after the release of sugar and wheat crisis inquiry report by FIA, which blamed various prominent politicians as well as federal and provincial government officials for being responsible the sugar, wheat crisis that gripped the country a few months ago.
