Renowned religious scholar and vice president of Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi – Mufti Taqi Usmani, on Friday, responded to doctors’ demands of stricter lockdown saying that the 20-point agreement signed between Ulema and federal government is in accordance with WHO guidelines.
“We are proud of our doctors and there’s no doubt on their hard work, abilities and intentions but on coronavirus, WHO’s advisory is similar to those healthcare professionals who have endorsed our Ijmah agreed with the president,” read the statement issued on the scholar’s official twitter account.
The statement is a response to Karachi’s leading medical experts, including Dr Abdul Bari – CEO of Indus Hospital, Dr Saad Niaz, a gastroenterologist at DUHS and others who had urged government to reconsider its decision to allow congregational prayers.
“Allowing congregational prayers in larger numbers will have fatal outcomes amid a rising number of COVID-19 patients in the country,” read the letter jointly written by various doctors earlier this week. Sindh government has announced to restrict congregational prayers to 3-5 people in the month of Ramazan citing significance surge in new COVID-19 cases in the province. The mosques will remain open across the province, however only administrative staff will be allowed to offer prayers whereas people have been urged to pray at homes in accordance with social-distancing guidelines
