A Lahore Court has sent Mufti Azizur Rehman to jail on 14-day judicial remand in sexual abuse case.
Judicial Magistrate Rana Rasheed Ali Khan heard the case against Mufti Azizur Rehman who is accused of sexually abusing a madressah student.
During the hearing, Mufti Azizur Rehman expressed his desire to record his statement in the case, upon which the court sent the cleric to jail directing jail authorities to produce him before the relevant court to record his statement.
Mufti Azizur Rehman, was arrested by CIA from Mianwali on June 20th a day earlier. His two sons Altafur Rehman and Atiqur Rehman have also been apprehended by the police.
The arrests followed after North Cantonment police registered a case against Mufti Rehman for sexually assaulting the student and his three sons for attacking the complainant with the intention to exact revenge.
The case registered against the accused incorporates non-compoundable and non-bailable offences and with punishment of imprisonment up to seven years or so.
The cleric was charged on June 16 after videos purporting to show him forcing himself on the student went viral on social media.
Mufti Azizur Rehman had initially defended himself arguing that he was ‘drugged’ and that the video is a conspiracy to remove him from the seminary.
However, police has claimed that the accused has confessed to luring the student by promising to pass him in the examinations and then sexually abusing the victim. The cleric has also admitted to his sons threatening the victim against going public about the incident, said the police.
