Mufti Azizur Rehman – cleric and former JUI-F leader, accused of sexual abuse has confessed to crime of sexually abusing on of his student at Lahore’s religious seminary, reported Police on Monday (today).
Mufti Azizur Rehman along with his sons was presented before Judicial Magistrate Rana Arshad and admitted that it is him in the video being circulated around across social media platforms.
The video shows an elderly man engaging in ‘inappropriate’ sexual act with a male student.
The court has directed to carry out DNA testing and medical examination while granting a four-day physical remand of the 70-year-old cleric.
According to police, Mufti Azizur Rehman has confessed to luring the student by promising to pass him in the examinations and then sexually abusing the victim.
The accused has also admitted to his sons threatening the victim against going public about the incident, said the police.
However, the video posted by the victim went viral forcing the authorities to register a case against Mufti Azizur Rehman.
Mufti Azizur Rehman, was arrested by CIA from Mianwali on June 20th a day earlier. His two sons Altafur Rehman and Atiqur Rehman have also been apprehended by the police.
The arrests followed after North Cantonment police registered a case against Mufti Rehman for sexually assaulting the student and his three sons for attacking the complainant with the intention to exact revenge.
The case registered against the accused incorporates non-compoundable and non-bailable offences and with punishment of imprisonment up to seven years or so.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab – Inam Ghani has termed this as a ‘test case’ reaffirming that the police inquiry will include ‘scientific professional investigation’ aimed at ensuring that the accused is convicted by the court.
IG Inam Ghani also stressed upon the need to protect kids and keep society safe from these child molesters.
