Moeed Yusuf has been appointed as new National Security Advisor (NSA) by the federal government effective immediately.
Moeed Yusuf was already serving as Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning since his appointment to the post back in 2019.
The Prime Minister has been pleased to approve that Dr Moeed Yusuf, SAPM on National Security and Strategic Policy Planning shall function as National Security Advisor, read the notification issued by cabinet division.
His status as NSA will be the same to that of a federal minister.
Who is Moeed Yusuf?
Moeed Yusuf has served as the Associate Vice President for Asia at the Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. and previously a Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, and concurrently a Research Fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.
He has taught Political Science/International Relations at Boston University, George Washington University, the Lahore University of Management Sciences, and the Quaid-e-Azam University.
He has authored multiple books namely ‘Brokering Peace in Nuclear Environments: US Crisis Management in South Asia (2018)’, ‘South Asia 2060: Envisioning Regional Futures (co-edited) (2013)’, ‘Getting it Right in Afghanistan (co-edited) (2013)’.
