Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended membership of 154 legislators over their failure to submit tax returns.
As per details, ECP has suspended membership of 48 MNAs, 52 MPAs from Punjab, 19 MPAs from Sindh, 26 MPAs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 6 MPAs from Balochistan Assembly.
Prominent lawmakers who have had their memberships suspended include Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, MQM-P leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi, Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Fehmida Mirza and PML-N leader Sheikh Rohail, and others.
In Sindh, ECP has suspended membership of Nasir Hussain Shah, Taimoor Talpur, Imdad Pitafi, Mukesh Chawla, Ikramullah Khan, Sardar Chandio along with 13 other MPAs.
Furthermore, membership of three senators namely Musaddiq Malik, Kamran Michael and Shamim Afridi has also been suspended.
ECP has notified Chairman Senate, Speakers of National Assembly and four Provincial Assemblies regarding suspension of membership of legislators.
The suspended memberships will be restored once the lawmakers submit their tax and assets details.
