Prime Minister Imran Khan, has announced that the country-wide coronavirus lockdown will be lifted in phases, starting Saturday May 9th.
Speaking at the press conference, Prime Minister Imran Khan informed the countrymen of National Coordination Committee’s (NCC) decision to finally lift the coronavirus lockdown in the country due to its severe economic repercussions on the poor.
“We have decided to open the country in a phased manner from Saturday and it is now the responsibility of the masses to follow the rules otherwise we would be forced to reverse the decision,” said the Prime Minister.
“The decision has been made due to the suffering of our people,” he noted.
The premier added that the government cannot afford to extend the economic package and that’s why the lockdown had to be lifted. He stated that the industries, businesses and the public in-general must abide by the coronavirus preventive measures and SOPs as recommended by medical experts or else the government will be forced to reinstate strict lockdown in case of exponential increase in COVID-19 cases.
As per the decisions made by NCC, small markets will be allowed to resume their business from Saturday, whereas steel/aluminium, electrical and ceramic industries along with their retail markets will also be allowed to resume their operations.
Furthermore, the NCC has decided to extend the closure of educational institutions till July 15, whereas board examinations have also been cancelled and the students will be promoted and will be allowed to apply for university admissions on the basis of previous results.
