Sindh Solid Waste Management Board(SSWMB) will now perform the responsibility of cleaning the district Central and Korangi of Karachi, DMC’s are also asked to allocate space for animal sacrifice this Eid ul Azha.
The Chairman District Central Rehan Hashmi and Chairman Korangi Nayer Raza met Secretary Local Government (LG) in his office today and requested to assign the task of cleanliness to SSWMB in their districts. Secretary LG Roshan Shaikh responded the Chairmen positively and said that after the consultation with Minister LG the transformation of responsibilities will executed.
Afterwards addressing the meeting participants Roshan Shaikh said that on the request of Sind Government, the World Bank has given special grant which would be utilized only for the cleaning of rain Nallahs and as per the consensus of previous meeting the Project Director CLICK Zubair Channa will accomplish the task in coordination with the focal person of KMC Masood Alam. Secretary LG said that the task of Nallahas cleaning cannot be accomplished with the cooperation of all the stake holders,
“The grant received by the World Bank shall be exclusively utilized for the purpose of rain Nallahs cleaning. The designated team for the completion of task will be on ground from tomorrow but they need proper support from the DMC officials, who can locate and identify the sensitive and possible choking points”.
Both the district chairmen assured secretary LG that the technical staff of DMC will be assisting the Nallahs cleaning team unconditionally during the whole process. They also informed Secretary that rain emergency units have already been established in DMC offices.
Roshan Shaikh told the meeting participants that on the instructions of court no one would be allowed to slaughter the sacrificial animals in their homes or road side as allocated places would be designated for this purpose,
“All the district administrations have been asked to locate and identify a place in every union council which will be designated for the purpose of animal sacrificial this year. We won’t allow anyone to do sacrificial on the roads and homes as federal and provincial governments will follow the guide lines given by the honorable court for this purpose”.
Secretary Local Government added that after sacrificial the SSWMB will collect the offals and properly dispose them of for recycling.
