The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday, heard the petition seeking for the establishment of separate burial grounds for people dying due to coronavirus.
According to details, the petitioner has maintained that the people affected with coronavirus are kept in isolation, and those who succumb due to the novel virus are being buried in public graveyards.
The petition has urged to court to issue instructions to relevant authorities to establish separate burial grounds for coronavirus victims to curb the virus spread and ensure the safety of graveyard staff and other people visiting various public burial sites.
It is to be noted that people who die due to COVID-19 are still the carriers of the virus and can still infect other people, therefore special preventive measures have been adopted by the authorities to burry coronavirus victims.
Government has banned funeral prayers, and only a handful of people are allowed to attend funeral processions and that too with proper protective gear.
Earlier, five cemeteries named, Mohammed Shah, Surjani, Mowach Goth, Korangi No. 6 and Gulshan-e-Zia were designated for the burial of COVID-19 patients in Karachi. Meanwhile, Sindh government had also designated 80 acres of land at Link Road- a road connecting Super Highway and National Highway, for the burial of COVID-19 victims in Karachi.
