Actor Shah Rukh Khan is known for his wit and humour. But, he also commands attention with his serious talks about life, career, choices and family. At the recently held Global Freight Summit in Dubai, the superstar spoke about failures and how he kept victimising himself for the longest time because of those failures.
Shah Rukh shared that he had cried in his bathroom fearing being written-off. The actor mentioned feeling self-loathing and guilt when something goes wrong in life, and asked everyone to fight those emotions, rebuild oneself and move on.
When asked whether he is ever disapproving of his work, SRK said, “I am. And I hate feeling it, and then I cry a lot in the bathroom. I don’t show it to anyone. Because I think you can wallow in self-pity for about that much time.”
The 59-year-old added that one has to identify one’s follies and accept that they went wrong somewhere, and hence, the failure. Shah Rukh said, “You have to believe that the world is not against you, or did not go wrong because of you or the world is conspiring to destroy your work. No. You have to believe that you made it badly. Then you have to move on. There are moments of despair, but there are moments where you say ‘Shut up, now get up and get on with it’.”
The superstar also spoke at length about how people often blame the rest of the world, society and others for a job gone wrong, but they have to understand that it’s all a part and parcel of the game. “The world is not against you. Life moves on. I think if you can imagine yourself as an ant, me, a very good-looking ant (smiles), but nevertheless, an ant! Sometimes the wind takes you away… the wind is not working against you. It is just doing what it does,” he explained.
