Karachi is set to receive its first rain spell of 2021 later this week, said Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
According to PMD, weather system from North Arabian Sea will reach Sindh by June 16th bringing first spell of monsoon rain to Karachi.
The metropolis is expected to receive light to moderate rain following a dust and thunderstorm from Thursday to Saturday this week, under this pre-monsoon weather system.
Additionally, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad Ghotki, Dadu, Sukkur and Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Hyderabad Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Thar, Badin and Thatta districts) are also likely to receive rain later this week.
PMD has warned that Karachi along with other parts of Sindh will receive more rainfall this year. The usual amount of rain recorded for Karachi in the month of July is 60mm, for August is 60.9 mm and for September is 11 mm.
Area weighted normal rainfall of Pakistan during July-September is 140.8 mm, said PMD.
It is pertinent to know that Karachi suffered from massive urban flooding in 2020 last year caused due to unexpected torrential rains.
More than 50 people were killed in various incidents across the city along with damage to property and infrastructure worth billions of rupees.
