Karachi is set to experience strong winds, dust storm and this year’s first downpour on Thursday (today).
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the pre-monsoon spell is expected to bring dust storm and light to moderate rain along with gusty winds and dust storm in Karachi.
Currently the metropolis is experiences extreme humid and hot weather due to a significant drop in seabreaze across the city.
Humidity has been recorded at around 78% in the city.
CAA has issued advisory for Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport directing Small planes and helicopters to carry extra weight to counter strong winds. CAA has also fire departments to ensure emergency precautions in wake of extreme weather forecast.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) asked concerned institutions to complete all necessary arrangements as heavy rainfall under the monsoon system is expected in major cities including Karachi and Hyderabad.
Other cities expected to receive rainfall include Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Padaidan, Rohri, Hyderabad, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Tharparkar, Khairpur, and Sanghar.
In a prediction issued earlier this week, PMD had said that Karachi is expected to receive light to moderate rain following a dust and thunderstorm from Thursday to Saturday this week, under this pre-monsoon weather system.
Karachi along with other parts of Sindh will receive more rainfall this year. The usual amount of rain recorded for Karachi in the month of July is 60mm, for August is 60.9 mm and for September is 11 mm, had warned the PMD.
