Pakistan’s largest city and financial hub Karachi has been hit by prolonged unannounced load shedding reported all across the metropolis.
Various areas of Karachi namely North Karachi, Nagan Chowrangi, Gulberg, Kharadar, Scheme 33, Malir, Model Colony, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nazimabad, Orangi Town and others reported prolonged power cuts in late hours of Friday night.
Other areas affected by late-night load shedding include Karachi Race Club, Karachi Revenue Judicial Society, Azimpura area of Millat Town, Gulphashan Society, Landhi and Korangi.
KE – the sole electricity distributor of the metropolis, has blatantly denied any unannounced load shedding arguing that the company staff was only working on a fault in Korangi.
Business community and traders have reprimanded KE over continuous power outages resulting in severe financial loss. Meanwhile, students have also been affected due to unannounced load shedding as they’re left unable to attend to online classes amid COVID-19 restrictions.
It is pertinent to know that Karachi was hit by a massive electricity breakdown after a high-tension transmission line of 220 kV tripped causing power outages in various areas across the metropolis on May 22 earlier this month.
